UCLA Newsroom Highlights Upcoming Thurgood Marshall Lecture

March 19, 2014 – john a. powell, an internationally recognized expert in the areas of civil rights and civil liberties, will give the Bunche Center’s 25th Thurgood Marshall Lecture.  powell is the Director of the Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society, which supports research to generate specific prescriptions for changes in policy and practice that address disparities related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and socioeconomics in California and nationwide.  The lecture series was named for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and pays tribute to Marshall’s brilliant record of civil rights advocacy by presenting an annual public lecture by a distinguished scholar, legal practitioner, or activist.
