The State of Black California 2008

The first State of Black California report, published in 2008, laid the foundation for data-driven policy and advocacy focused on improving conditions for Black Californians. Commissioned by the California Legislative Black Caucus, the report provided one of the first comprehensive looks at racial disparities across education, health, employment, housing, and criminal justice. By centering data and accountability, it set a precedent for statewide efforts to track progress and guide policy toward equity and opportunity for California’s Black communities.
