The Black Policy Project (BPP) partnered with the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office to design and lead a comprehensive research and community engagement process to understand how Angelenos define safety, well-being, and the conditions needed for their communities to thrive. Through this effort, BPP facilitated 15 community listening sessions with more than 200 residents across the city, conducted a representative survey of over 5,000 respondents, and produced a detailed analysis of community priorities, concerns, and aspirations.
These findings will guide multi-disciplinary policies and programmatic initiatives for the Mayor’s Office, ensuring that future investments in public safety are informed by the lived experiences and needs of Black communities and other marginalized residents. BPP presented the results to Mayor Karen Bass and members of her administration, offering a data-driven foundation for advancing a more just, responsive, and equitable Los Angeles.
