Images in Blackness explores diversity in the entertainment industry. Participants examine the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality and its role in determining acceptance, critical consideration, and commercial success.
This event features award winning theater and film actress Lisa Gay Hamilton. Ms. Hamilton is known for her role as attorney Rebecca Washington on the Practice and as young Sethe in the film adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Beloved. Theater credits include Measure for Measure (Isabella), Henry IV Parts I & II (Lady Hotspur), and Athol Fugard’s, Valley Song. She was also an original cast member in Broadway productions of August Wilson’s, The Piano Lesson and Gem of the Ocean.
Samantha Sheppard, a PhD Candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at UCLA, will moderate.
