Ford Receives 1.5 million from NIH to Study Disparities in HIV/AIDS Care Among Racial/Ethnic Minorities and Seniors
June 10, 2014 – Chandra Ford, an Assistant Professor of Community Health Sciences at the University of California at Los Angeles and a Bunche Center affiliated faculty member, was recently was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), one of the institutes within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Led by Ford, researchers from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and Kaiser Permanente Southern California will conduct a study to look at disparities in HIV/AIDS care among racial/ethnic minorities and seniors. The study will compare diverse managed care enrollees based on their assigned health care providers and the neighborhood conditions in which they live. The four-year study will also identify neighborhood conditions and provider factors that may make it hard for HIV-positive people to maintain their health.
